Some people have heard of the 911-based Porsche Flug Motor (PFM) used in Mooney aircraft in the 1980s, but that wasn't their first attempt at powering airplanes. The Typ 678/4 was available in the late 1950s for aircraft use. I don't have any photos of them, but here is the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Type Certificate for it:
